Garden Box Lettus

UW Madison

Leaves are made out of packing foam sandwiched between two layers of tulle. Used hot glue as the leaf veins, then lightly heated them with a heat gun to wrinkle the leaf. Painted with a few tones of green. Attached to a Styrofoam ball that also had leaves around it. Simplified the end design to have fewer leaves, so it could be mass produced faster.

Green Bean Cassarole

UW Madison

Made the green beans out of backer rod foam: primed, painted, and sealed. Made fried onion bits with painted raffia ribbon. Made the sauce base with flex glue, a little saw dust, and white paint. Combined the green beans and glue mixture then sprinkled the raffia on top. Propped up on a book so that it would dry on one half of the dish as if it were half eaten.

Breakfast Plate

Peninsula Players Theatre

One breakfast plate of eaten food and one untouched. Cut the bread was out of batting and painted, the crusts and eggs were made out of caulk, and the bacon was bought then painted for more realistic texture.

Watermelon

UW Madison

Tried paper mache on a ball first, but it wasn’t sturdy enough. Made a new base with EVA foam and sanded heavily. Covered the EVA foam with paper mache for a harder shell and to obscure any sharp edges. Painted on texture. Was initially an empty shell, but later changed to be uneaten halves. Used cardboard to cover the opening and painted on texture. In the future, I would’ve weighed them down with something, so they didn’t look lightweight when being handled by actors.

Dumplings

Personal Project

A plate of fried dumplings made out of felt and rice. Pleated the felt and sewed it down most of the way, filled them with rice, sewed up the corner. Painted for added dimension.

Punch Glasses

UW Madison

A set of punch glasses for a ballroom scene. Painted the color with stain glass paint.
